Buck Rogers In The 25th Century, created by Glen A. Larson and Leslie Stevens, exploded onto broadcast TV in 1979. The adventures of Captain Rogers, played by actor Gil Gerard, was a family oriented, sci-fi show. Occasionally, producers did try to push the envelope in terms of tone and language.
